In a creative twist on police tactics, a sheriff’s deputy used his unique ability to mimic a K-9’s bark to coax teenage car theft suspects into surrendering. After a high-speed chase and a ditching of the stolen vehicle, the suspects fled into a wooded ravine. In body camera footage, the deputy warned, “Don’t make us release our K9!” before barking loudly. Believing a police dog was closing in, the teens emerged from hiding and were arrested without incident. One suspect later admitted, “As soon as I heard that dog, I gave up.” This isn’t the deputy’s first time using his canine impression to resolve a standoff; he previously employed the tactic to encourage a suspect to come out of hiding.
